I purchased the entry-level Pentax K-50 16MP DSLR in January 2017 which was first released in 2013. The camera was sold in a bundle with two lenses, the DA L 18-55mm WR f3.5-5.6 and 50-200mm WR Lenses. I purchased two additional lenses in the past several months; the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens and Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 lens.

In an effort to learn how to use this camera I have downloaded many tutorials from photographers such as Gavin Hoey, Mark Wallace, Matt Granger, Tony and Chelsea Northrup, Spyros Heniadis and Jared Polin, to name a few. At present I consider myself to be a beginning novice amateur photographer. This website is a record of my progress in that effort to become an amateur photographer with a working knowledge of my camera to shoot satisfactory photos.

  • Flower Photos

    The majority of these photos were shot with the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens in macro mode. This is not a true macro lens having a ratio for maximum magnification of 1:2 and not 1:1 as in true macro lenses. I am satisfied with the performance of this lens and judging from my first attempts at macro photography I believe I will be able to master the skill of achieving sharper photos in the near future.

  • Insect Photos

    As with the flower photo album the majority of these photos were shot with the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens in macro mode. Those photos where the insect is not shot in an extreme close up were taken with the 50-200mm WR Lens.

  • Landscape Photos

    Most of the photos here were taken with a Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 lens with a Hoya PL-CIR Circular Polarizer filter. I took these photos while on hiking and camping trips in the mountain ranges in western North Carolina. Most were taken in the South Mountain Park area. My hiking and camping trips are featured here on my hiking website.

  • Toy Photography

    I have been a miniature modeler for many years, specializing in building dioramas of various action scenes. I modeled everything from model railroads, wooden hull ships to dollhouses. Because of space constrains I had been unable to display my works and most of my models did not survived numerous transportation to new homes. It occurred to me that I could build a temporary diorama and photograph it and therefore not take up any space. This photo album showcases the dioramas I have built and photographed.
